Google launches Android 17 and Wear OS 7 with new Gemini features on Pixel devices
Google has released Android 17 and Wear OS 7, adding multitasking tools, parental controls, security features, and smartwatch upgrades. The launch is accompanied by a Pixel Drop that brings newer Gemini capabilities and AI features to supported Google devices.
Why it matters: The release extends Google's AI strategy through its core consumer operating systems and first-party hardware, not just standalone apps. By tying Gemini upgrades to Android, Wear OS, and Pixel features, Google can push AI adoption at platform scale and strengthen ecosystem lock-in.
