Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 5 as a lower-cost model for agentic workloads

Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5, a new model positioned for agentic use cases with stronger capabilities, lower pricing, and updated safety measures. TechCrunch reports the company is presenting Sonnet 5 as a cheaper alternative to higher-end models including Claude Opus as well as rival offerings such as GPT-5.5 and Gemini Pro.
