Meta releases Muse Glimmer, a 30B Apache 2.0 open-weight model for local AI agents

First recorded August 10, 2026 · Latest coverage August 14, 2026 · 5 sources

Meta has released Muse Glimmer, a 30 billion-parameter open-weight model aimed at autonomous AI agents running on consumer hardware such as high-end Macs and PCs. VentureBeat reports that the model is available now on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license, marking a more permissive open-source release than Meta's earlier Llama licensing and following the proprietary Muse Spark launch in April. Support is also rolling out across tools including Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM, SGLang, Together AI, Fireworks AI, and OpenRouter.

Why it matters: The launch strengthens Meta's push to make capable agent models usable outside cloud infrastructure, which could lower deployment costs and expand local, privacy-sensitive AI workflows. The Apache 2.0 license is especially significant because it removes common commercial-use restrictions and may increase developer adoption, ecosystem support, and competitive pressure around open model distribution.
